Longlands Matamata wedding photography
Photographed by Amber + Zahn
Mike + Gen are travellers. They have spent 3 of their last 10 years together traveling the world – a good portion of this spent in the confines on a converted mini-van – A true test of any relationship!
During their wedding ceremony their celebrant (the wonderful Pam Bayes) read aloud letters they had written to each other – it was clear how much traveling has shaped their lives and their relationship – so much so that they were only in NZ for a week, before they were off on their next big adventure.
At the start of the ceremony – Mike faced away from the direction Gen was arriving from and only turned around when she was at the start of the aisle.
I love this “deep breath” moment, and how intensely these two look at each other after the big reveal.
There’s always one who messes up the signing. Luckily it’s usually someone you like (like your sister) so all is forgiven.
We had location scouted earlier in the weekend and couldn’t believe our luck when we stumbled across this forest. It was actually so beautiful that these next shots are essentially unedited. the light was perfect and I found myself doing my happy photographer dance and singing the “oh magic forest how I love you” song throughout the shoot.
Oh and then there was the epic field of epicness. So spoilt.
The forecast had been for heavy rain all day. And while the clouds had gathered, the rain just hadn’t arrived. I was watching the rain radar throughout the evening, watching the storm getting closer and closer – and after waiting about 30mins after “finish time” we finally got a light misting of rain. The perfect end to an amazing day and so worth hanging around for.
Mike + Gen, I hope you are enjoying your adventures. I’m only a wee bit jealous.
There will be many more wedding photos waiting for you on your arrival home.
