Otahuna Lodge wedding photography Christchurch
Photographed by Isaac & Amber
Otahuna Lodge is one of the most magnificent buildings we’ve ever had the pleasure to photograph a wedding at.
So we were super excited when Laura & Andy said they wanted to fly us down to Christchurch to photograph their wedding day – and capture it we did! We kicked off pre-sunrise, and partied on with them into the night.
Here’s a little insight into the story of their day. Enjoy!
So it turns out that Laura had spent an entire year writing down memories & shared experiences as they planned the wedding – one entry every day. And – she had managed to keep it completely secret from Andy! So that morning, he had a bit of reading to catch up on.
As the sun started to rise for the day, the skies lit up across Christchurch – and 20 minutes drive from each other, a bride & a groom each walked outside to witness the spectacle.
Laura’s Oma & Opa feature a lot through the day – they play a big part in their lives. It was nice to have them stop by early that morning.
The boys headed down to a local cafe for breakfast (I was very excited to have my first – and subsequently 2nd, and 3rd, coffee of the day).
Laura and her bridesmaids all had personalised T-Shirts… unfortunately, to preserve the hairstyle – Laura needed to be cut out of hers!
Meanwhile – Andy gifted his groomsmen a pocket watch that he & Laura had bought while in Switzerland. Cue “how to wear a pocket watch” instructions as everyone tried to figure out how to fasten them onto the waistcoats.
Laura’s Louise Anderson gown was absolutely stunning.
There weren’t many dry eyes left in the church after the ceremony.
Before heading out to Otahuna Lodge – we took the chance for a few sweeping vistas overlooking Christchurch.
Upon arriving at Otahuna Lodge, one of the things you first notice is the amazing lawns! (and the hot bridal party, naturally).
We walked a loop through the grounds on site – taking the time to pause each time we saw some gorgeous light filtering through the trees. (There were quite a few pauses).
The reception kicked off with Chef Jimmy talking the guests through the menu – illustrating how he had decided upon each course, and what went into making them. It was really fascinating to hear him speak – and I’m sure gave everyone a higher appreciation of what they were eating! So we followed his progress through the evening out the back.
After dinner, we had time for a quick break to make the most of the elaborate setting.
Every single speech was awesome – from the heart, well crafted, and not a hastily-Googled-joke in sight.
