And the cruel irony is, the infamous light switch won\u2019t even appear until <strong>after the wedding day has passed.<\/strong> It simply comes down to this: &#8220;You don\u2019t know what you&#8217;ve got until it\u2019s gone.&#8221;<br \/>\nBut that\u2019s ok, right? You\u2019ve hired a professional photographer. You tell yourself: <em>&#8220;They\u2019ll be capturing all the moments of the wedding day&#8221;<\/em> \u2026 that is until you find the light switch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>WHY PHOTOGRAPHS AREN&#8217;T ENOUGH<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">\u00a0This is a photo of my Dad. He\u2019s 64 years old and a pretty cool guy. In the <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-35383 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/perspectives.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Dad-Alistair.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"280\" \/>photo to the right, you can see him smiling away. You can see the lines on his face and grey hair coming through.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The problem is, this photo doesn\u2019t really capture who my dad is. It\u2019s just what he looks like. If you could just meet him, shake his hand and experience how he acknowledges you. You\u2019d hear the energy and excitement in his voice. You\u2019d notice how he holds himself and you\u2019d feel a certain dynamic about the interaction.<br \/>\nIf you spent 15 seconds with my Dad you\u2019d experience <em>who<\/em> he is. The photo of my dad is great but there\u2019s <strong>so much more to him than that.<\/strong> This is why video is so important.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Video not only captures a frozen moment. It captures the entire dynamic of who a person is.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 600;\">THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PHOTOS AND VIDEO IN 40 SECONDS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Blog 3 - Video 1\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/133542860?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"640\" height=\"136\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Now I know this comparison seems a little unfair. Jim the groom got all emotional and struggled to say his vows. You could hear it in his voice &#8211; something photos simply can\u2019t capture. BUT THAT\u2019S THE POINT. <strong>There are certain parts of a wedding day a photographer simply cannot capture in the same way video can.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A wedding day <em>is not<\/em> a one-dimensional affair. It doesn\u2019t happen in silence and the wedding party, family and friends don&#8217;t play statues. It is dynamic, alive and a very <em>real<\/em> experience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>\u201cbut wedding videos are long, cheesy and I\u2019ll never watch it anyway.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Have you ever listened to someone <em>attempting<\/em> to play the violin? It\u2019s not very pretty, in fact, it\u2019s kind of painful!! But when the violin is played with true skill it can be one of the most beautiful and moving instruments you will ever hear. You just have to find a good violinist!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It&#8217;s no different with video. It requires real skill to tell a strong story out of candid unscripted moments. There\u2019s no cheating the system here. Hire someone cheap and you\u2019ll confirm your own bias. The film will be boring, cheesy and you\u2019ll never watch it again. But hire someone who really knows their craft, and it may well be the very best thing you spent your wedding budget on.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">One day you&#8217;ll have kids and they\u2019ll ask: &#8220;Mum and Dad, <strong>what were <em>you<\/em> like<\/strong> on your wedding day?&#8221; You\u2019ll likely pull out the album and show a collection of still photos from your day.<\/p>\n<p>But just like the photo of my dad above (who you\u2019ll likely never meet), your kids will never get to see <strong>how truly in love you really were.<\/strong> They\u2019ll never see the energy in how you moved or feel the nerves as you began to speak your vows. They\u2019ll never hear the cheer as you walk back down the aisle, and how truly awesome your dance moves actually were!<\/p>\n<p>As time marches on our memories begin to fade. We look through our photos and embellish what we can.
