Dan + Vic
Whangapoua wedding photos

When Dan & Vic first got in touch with us, they shared a little about their plans & dreams for their wedding day.
Victoria’s family has been coming to their bach (which her grandparents bought) her entire life – so the setting in Whangapoua was super meaningful.
Even when I arrived to have a look around the venue the day before the wedding – Vic mentioned that this particular end of the beach was what she felt was ‘their’ end – whereas they didn’t really go down the other end that much.
It was totally obvious that the best spot for their location photos was going to be right out in front of the bach – with the little island making an appearance in the backdrop.
There were so many things to love about this gorgeous Coromandel wedding. They had done so much DIY work (which was still ongoing on the day, building signs, assembling the ceremony area, finishing the reception setup) – it was an all-hands-on-deck scenario… perfect for the intimate, candid style of wedding photos we gravitate towards.
I also loved the fact that Vic decided to start off her morning with a swim to clear her head & get ready for the day. It’s just so … beachy! So my day started at 8am when I met Vic for her morning swim, after which she sat on the beach & opened a letter that Dan had written to her.
From there, the boys were already in the process of carrying things down from the bach to the ceremony location at a nearby glade by the river – getting everything prepared for a hot, sunny, perfectly blue sky day.
After exchanging their vows, Vic & Dan shared their first kiss under the big tree that they were married under. The guests hung out in the shade afterwards – playing lawn games while we wandered around and took a few wedding photos.
Then it was back to the marquee in the backyard of the family bach – a bunch of amazing speeches, and some epic dance moves! Dan & Vic sneaked away for 10 minutes during twilight to get a few beautiful, dusky, pastel shots on the beach. It was also a perfect chance to get in a last dress rehearsal for their first dance – which they had spent ages methodically choreographing. They nailed it!
At the very end of the night, I went back down to the beach to see what the stars were looking like – as it was such a clear, perfect night. The moon was out pretty strong, check out the last photo in this post – it looks like it was shot in daylight!
