A few years ago now, I flew over to Vanuatu to photograph the wedding of David and Jade. Little did I know then, but the wedding of James and Corrie was already in the works! James had decided he wanted to propose to Corrie, and so the night before we all left for Vanuatu, James had sneakily asked Corrie’s Mum and Dad for their blessing to marry their daughter.
Once they arrived back in NZ, James and Corrie were taking in the sights of Auckland, when James got down on one knee and asked Corrie to marry him.
So when we all gathered back together up in Kerikeri – it was somewhat of a reunion and it was so awesome to catch up with the Vanuatu team again, and meet some awesome new crew as well (even though it took us about an hour to actually head out the door at the end of the night, because we had so many people we wanted to farewell!)
James and Corrie had a change of venue part way through their planning process – and while it seemed stressful at the time – it was meant to be! Their ceremony was held at the beautiful Seronera Country Gardens in Kerikeri and their reception was at the Waimate showgrounds. The showgrounds are a bit of a hidden gem! Disguised and a bit industrial looking from the outside – once you step inside – it’s a rustic barn lovers’s dream. The entire crew spent hours filling the hall with flowers and lights, and the end result was amazing.
I knew for sure that it was going to be an epic day when James and Corrie joined me for some scouting the day before the wedding. We were assured by the owner of Seronera Gardens that there was a beautiful river at the bottom of the property – all we had to do was find it! After a bit of bush crashing we found the best path down to the water. All the while I’m thinking to myself “hmmmm, how is Corrie going to manage this in a wedding dress???” I should never have doubted! She nailed it like the true champion she is! And just to prove the point – they both climbed a rickety fence for location B – only slightly damaging their footwear in the process.
