Jeremy + Kirsten
Taupo Wedding Photographer

There’s nothing we love more than weddings that are held in special, significant places.
Getting married is amazing – but getting married on land that you’ve grown up enjoying, holidaying, playing, fishing, boating – there’s just something so perfect about that. Having a connection to the land, to the water, to this place.
That’s exactly the scene set for Jeremy & Kirsten’s wedding day – held on the lawn of a family house, right on the lakefront.
Earlier in the week, there had been some pretty hectic weather warnings – heavy rain was on the way! Cue some very nervous storm tracking and hitting ‘refresh’ on the weather forecast apps on the regular.
The day before the wedding, it was torrential. As we drove down to Taupo from Auckland, the rain was lashing the windscreen & traffic slowed to a crawl in places as the downpour raged on. We were cautiously optimistic though – the next day was supposed to clear up nicely.
Jeremy & Kirsten took the time to show us this amazing little river, tucked just off the road behind their ceremony. You would never have even guessed it was there – beautiful native bush, and a super clear stream running through – an amazing location for some photos with the bridal party.
We also happened across a beautiful bank of wildflowers – right on the edge of the main SH1 road! There were plenty of congratulatory toots as we jumped out and did a photo session on the roadside. Love the vivid purple colours – we live in a stunning country.
Jeremy & Kirsten had created an impressive triangular arch, which looked amazing in the corner of the lawn for their ceremony. After exchanging vows they took the time to chill and relax with their guests for some post-wedding refreshments.
Back at their wedding reception in the Hilton Taupo, the speeches were done, and it was time for sunset. We had planned to sneak out for some cool sunset photos in the evening … the only problem? The sunset was non-existent … replaced instead by rain! No worries – we switched to rain photos instead – getting a sweet evening rain shot with the Hilton in the background.
One of the highlights of the day was an epic first dance – Kirsten & Jeremy had been to dance lessons and their beautifully choreographed first dance was amazing! Some pretty incredible lifts in there – check out the dance shots near the bottom of this post. From then on it was party time – the dancefloor was rocking & the band had everyone going hard all night.
