Stoneridge Estate, Queenstown wedding

We flew down to Queenstown to photograph the stunning wedding day of Chris & Jen out at Stoneridge.
Photographing weddings in Queenstown is always an exciting prospect for us – the landscape is so different from what we’ve usually got to work with in Auckland, and the light in the mountains came to the party & played ball – super awesome.
Jenn & Chris were one of the most relaxed, chilled couples imaginable – their day was definitely centered around the friends & family who had come to join them, and we just took a few snaps onsite after the ceremony so that they could get back and enjoy the party with their guests.
And a party it was!! Everyone had an amazing night – and we were right in the middle of it to capture all the action as it unfolded. For me, this is my favourite kind of wedding photography – purely documentary, candid, capturing real moments.
The next day, there was a lunch at Chris’ family bach (I suppose I should call it a ‘crib’ in this part of the world) in Arrowtown – and then we headed up the mountain for a heli shoot on Cecil Peak 🙂

So we had been shooting the reception & party for a few hours and we decided that we had fully captured the story of the night – time to head home. We drove the 20 minutes back to Queenstown… and it started raining. So I decided to drive 20 minutes back to the venue. It stopped raining. Not wanting to have wasted the trip, I sat in the carpark for 20 minutes further – and eventually, the rain returned. So I headed back inside to find a surprised Chris & Jen – and explained to them why I was back (an hour later after I had left) … and we sneaked outside for one final shot. It looked like this.

Totally worth it!
The next day people gathered for a BBQ lunch, and then we headed off to do our helicopter wedding photo shoot 🙂
