It’s hard to find the words to tell you about Lankshan and Sanduni’s wedding celebration.
I think the first thing you need to know, is that this was more than a wedding for us. We were welcomed so warmly by Sanduni and Lakshan’s families that we really felt a part of the entire week of celebrations and part of their family.

The second thing you need to know is that this is but the tiniest snippet of their celebration. About 5% of it to be precise.
From the very first day we experienced what it means to be married in Sri Lanka – it’s a celebration for an entire community.
We joined Sanduni and Lakshan for a pilgrimage to the most sacred Church in Sri Lanka to receive blessings for their wedding day. We listened (and joined in) as the neighbours set up drums on the driveway to tell the community that something special was happening. We watched family members go without sleep and work tirelessly to make sure everything was perfect for Sanduni and Lakshan. We watched as Sanduni and Lakshan personally thanked every single person who made their day so special. And we watched them do it twice as they continued their reception to their “homecoming” celebration a few days later.
We watched the sincerity with which they approached their wedding service and we were continually blown away by their commitment to each other and their family.
Sanduni, Lakshan and the entire family – Thank you so so much for making our trip an experience we will always remember.
We can’t wait to come back and see you again!
