Helen + Duncan

Mahia,
Hawkes Bay

Helen & Duncan wanted a low-key, relaxed wedding on the beach.
Mahia is their special place – where Duncan works as a cray fisher … a place abundant in kaimoana, untouched natural beauty… and very few venues to accommodate more than 100 people!
So they decided to have a ceremony on the beach in Mahia with their immediate families, followed by a flight by helicopter out to Portland Island (where Duncan proposed to Helen) – and then the majority of their guests joined them to party at Te Awa Winery in Hawkes Bay.
Accompanied by their dog Roo, Helen & Duncan shared vows to each other on the most perfect, calm, blue day you could wish for.
Over on Portland Island – the waters were so clear that Duncan would have possibly traded getting married to go diving instead! They managed to get onto perhaps the sketchiest cliff face I’ve had the chance to shoot – love the yin/yang curve where the coastline just drops away into blackness.
Then we kicked back in the heli to fly 45 mins back to Te Awa – where they partied the night away.
It was our first time in Mahia – and you can consider us totally sold. It is one of the most magical places I’ve had the chance to visit in Aotearoa – just perfect.
This is a tiny sneak peek of what we captured on the day – there are hundreds & hundreds more images to follow soon. But for now – enjoy this little taster!
