Sarah + Matt
Cable Bay Waiheke wedding photos
Photographed by Isaac, Amber, and Amy
Matt and Sarah managed to carry an island theme throughout their wedding – engaged in Rarotonga, then married on Waiheke Island, and back to Raro for their honeymoon!
Hopefully though, the weather didn’t follow them! It was an eventful day on Waiheke as a storm lashed the country, big swells rose from nowhere, and gale force winds whipped through the fields.
With stormy weather though, comes many blessings. The most beautiful soft light during the ceremony on the lawn at Cable Bay, looking back over towards Auckland city. The moody, dramatic skies that make a stunning backdrop to their location shots up on the ridgeline. And once the rain arrived late that night (once everyone was safely tucked inside) – we managed to sneak back out for a cool night time rain photo!
The adventure didn’t end there… we did our usual sprint into the terminal after dropping the rental car back at 10.55pm… only to find the the 11pm boat was cancelled, and the next sailing would be in the morning! Luckily, a friendly local managed to help us out and score some beds in their friends house – so we avoided sitting in the terminal overnight (which some unlucky people did have to do) and instead found ourselves knocking on some random strangers’ door at 1am asking “is this the place we’re supposed to be staying?”
Matt is a helicopter pilot – so it was only fitting that Sarah arrive to the ceremony in a helicopter… which we then used to fly up to the center of the island for some cool photos overlooking the Waiheke view.. and then over to Man’O’War bay where it was amazingly sheltered from the storm for a few shots on the beach.
Here’s a little sneak peek at Matt & Sarah’s Cable Bay wedding photos – enjoy!
