Barnett Hall Piha wedding photos
Photographed by Isaac and Amy
Before you get too far : This blog post is just a tiny preview of a few favourite images – if you’re keen to check out a more complete story of the day (like 100 photos instead of 30) – click here for the slideshow.
We first met Colin & Zanthe a couple of years ago, through the acrobatics and circus community here in Auckland.
Since then, we’ve been on adventures with them both big and small – from a massive camping excursion at New Years to exploring Auckland’s hidden gems – and now, their amazing Piha wedding.
One of the things we love about Colin & Zanthe is their ability to bring people together. Things seem to magically fall into place & everyone has a blast. But once you’ve seen this a few times, you realize that the ‘magically’ bit actually stems from them being epic organizers behind the scenes; and being rad people that inspire others to help out too.
If you can organize a multi day acrobatics festival, including all accommodation, food, timetabling 3 different schedules, flying in teachers from over the world … you can damn sure plan a wedding!
In the early wedding planning stages, Zanthe was bouncing venue ideas off us – looking for somewhere out West, ideally at the beach, and with a chill DIY vibe. When she told me they’d settled on Barnett Hall in Piha, we were stoked!
It’s nestled in amongst the North Piha sand dunes, and you really can’t get more beachfront than this.
We’re totally fans of weddings that do things a little differently. Rather than everyone waiting for the bride to arrive down at the beach, the guests & Colin met Zanthe as she arrived in the car outside the venue – and then they led everyone along the beach to the spot where the ceremony took place.
We were super lucky to have gorgeous soft overcast light – as they exchanged vows on their very own stretch of Piha beach. It was made even more amazing by the ocean mist drifting in across the sea.
Afterwards, we headed down for a wedding photo adventure down the beach – which included a bit of bonus acro and circus skills – apparently this is much harder in a wedding dress than in your activewear!
Arriving back at Barnett Hall, we had a delicious meal (everyone brought along a plate to share – which worked perfectly!) and some heartfelt speeches. Being right on the West Coast beachfront, it was only fitting to head down and check out the amazing sunset – not only did Colin & Zanthe get to enjoy this view while we took a bunch of cool sunset shots – but most of the guests also wandered down to the waterline, taking some time just to appreciate the beauty that nature served up.
Our night wrapped up with a gorgeous starry sky – framed underneath the North Piha surf lifesaving tower in the sand dunes. There’s something so magical about celebrating your wedding day under a perfectly clear sky with stars everywhere.
This is just a tiny preview of the day – you can see a much more comprehensive story by checking out the slideshow here.
Enjoy!
